With twenty years of experience in facility and community-based corrections, Coach Smedley is a thought leader in the field. As the child of an incarcerated parent, possessing a degree in Criminal Justice, and a course creator for inmate tablets, Alisa has a very unique perspective. Whether presenting at regional or national conferences, or providing staff training, she is a "new voice in re-entry." ...And She Speaks to Youth About Criminal Justice

Alisa has been invited to speak in high school classrooms to discuss criminal justice issues. Activities start with an icebreaker called Name That Contraband. From there Alisa shares information about working in criminal justice, what life in confinement looks like, and prevention strategies to stay out of the system. Her topics are very timely for children of incarcerated parents. Alisa's hands on activities engage students as they examine prison food options, calculate the cost of phone calls to loved ones, and measure the dimensions of a typical prison cell. In a light hearted manner, Alisa facilitates discussion about serious topics.
